A song was heard in China
\n in the city of Beijing
\n In the spring of 1989
\n you could hear the people sing.
\n And it was the song of freedom
\n that was ringing in the square,
\n the world could feel the passion of
\n the people gathered there.

For many nights and many days,
\n waiting in the square.
\n \u201cTo build a better nation\u201d
\n was the song that echoed there.
\n \u201cFor we are China\u2019s children,
\n we love our native land,
\n for brotherhood and freedom
\n we are joining hand in hand.\u201d

Then came the People\u2019s army
\n with trucks and tanks and guns.
\n The government was frightened
\n of their daughters and their sons.
\n But in the square was courage and
\n a vision true and fair,
\n the Army of the People would not harm
\n the young ones there.
\n Oh children, blood is on the square.<\/p>\n
On June the 3rd in China,
\n in the spring of \u201889,
\n an order came from high above
\n and passed on down the line.
\n The soldiers opened fire,
\n young people bled and died,
\n the blood of thousands on the square
\n that lies can never hide.
\n Oh children, blood is on the square.<\/p>\n
For four more days of fury
\n the people faced the guns.
\n How many thousands slaughtered
\n when their grisly work was done?
\n they quickly burned the bodies
\n to hide their coward\u2019s shame,
\n but blood is thick upon their hands and
\n darkness on their names.
\n Oh children, blood is on the square.<\/p>\n
There are tears that flow in China
\n for her children that are gone.
\n There is fear and there is hiding,
\n for the killing still goes on.
\n And the iron hand of terror can
\n buy silence for today,
\n but the blood that lies upon the square
\n cannot be washed away.
